Think about this….

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

2Ti_4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

I ask you today is this not what has happened even in many of the churches that call themselves churches of Christ? Salvation is in Christ through obedience to the Gospel. Too many people want to worship as they wish and try to bring God in line with what they choose to believe. God has set the rules the way he wants them and we need to bring our lives into accordance with His will. Solomon was a wise man and yet he understood that anything other than God's will is vanity. Ecc 1:1-2 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. With all he had and all he could do Solomon never found real joy or peace in the things of this world.

God first?

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

I would like to make a point this morning that I and many others have made time and again that I think largely goes unheeded. God in His providence has allowed you another day in which to live. You will have time to work or play as you see fit. You will have time to shop, time to enjoy the beauty around you, time to share with friends and family. I ask you though how much of that time will you spend thanking God? How much of that time will you spend praying for others? how much of that time will you spend in study of God's word? How much of that time will you spend trying to teach someone else about Christ? How much of that time will you spend quietly in meditation of God's word?

Before or after Justification

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

The word of God can not be our guide if we seek to twist its meaning to serve our own made up beliefs. Too many times a practice is begun by men then the search for justification begins. This is the reverse of what God intended when He gave us the scriptures. All power and authority comes from Christ for that is whom it was give too. Just as God did with the Jew He has given through Christ and His apostles the perfect law of liberty that brings men to Christ for salvation and has set forth a blueprint for man to live by.

Saved?

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

Yes sir there are even qualifications for being a member of the Lords church. This usually comes under the heading of what must I do to be saved.

What Must One Do?
The New Testament answers this inquiry so plainly that one can easily list the acts leading to Jesus in order (John 1:12). These are not just cold, formal demands but rather provisions, privileges, and opportunities afforded by the grace of God for man’s salvation. Let us examine these acts or steps one by one.

Pete and Grandma

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

Pete was headed over to Jack's house to help him work on his truck, it seemed that Jack's truck was always needing something done to keep it on the road. Pete knew it was all that Jack's family had for transportation so whenever asked he would grab his tools and head over to help. Oh how times have changed thought Pete, people sure don't act and care like they used too. You see Pete had grown up hearing stories from his Grandmother of how hard it had been during the depression and how everyone had to depend on their friends and relatives just to get by.

Pete remembered how he used to sit at the kitchen table while Grandma was cooking and she she would tell him stories of how people used to all know each other by first name and how they often depended on the kindness of others for help during those hard times. For some reason these stories always stuck with Pete and he didn't really understand how or why things had changed so much.
