Life’s trials

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

There are many things in life we can not control. You can't stand out in your yard in the rain and shout for it to stop and expect it to happen. You can't control what others say whether it is good or bad. You can't change the seasons just because you don't like winter. You can't stop friends and family from passing away when it is their time. And you can't make others love you or care for you no matter how hard you try.

Simple as that.

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

The scriptures teach that for one to become a Christian and be added to the Lords church that a man must hear (Matt. 17:5), believe (Jn. 8:24), repent (Acts 17:30, confess (Rom. 10:9-10) and then be baptized (Mk. 16:16). This is the simple plan that God put in place for our salvation. We must then begin to live obedient lives and remain faithful unto death (1 Cor. 15:58).

Judging?

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

I can't count the times I have heard someone say "you can't judge me only God can". When I hear this phrase it makes me wonder if people even pick up their bibles and study at all. When we love one another as the scriptures teach we want to see that as many people as possible are following Gods word in order to be saved. Without judging the actions of those we come into contact with we can't point out to them were they are in error and how to change.

Every day we make judgments in our lives and we judge by others actions and speech whether those around us are living an upright life. "Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment" (Jn. 7:24). Does the Bible contradict itself when it says in one passage to "judge not" and in another passage to "judge?" Certainly not! ",God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged." (Rom. 3:4). One passage simply speaks of righteous judgment, and the other of unrighteous judgment. One is right and permitted, the other is wrong and forbidden.

Late again?

By Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

Sorry I'm late but……. I will be the first to say yes there are at times legitimate reasons to be late for class or services that is not what I am going to address here so do not get your knickers in a bunch.

Every Christian knows that the first day of the week is the Lords day and that they need to be prepared both physically and mentally for that day of worship. The same concept applies to mid week Bible study and Gospel meetings and any other times the church comes together such as an all sing night etc.

There are times when an illness or some unforeseen event will keep us from assembling however, for a Christian who knows full well the times and places which they are to assemble for them not to be ready something is very wrong.

The Church and Compromise

Jim Miller
Gray, Maine

We have heard it said many times we must compromise in order to get along and move forward. This is a dangerous attitude that has led to much error in the church. I have never read anywhere in the scriptures where one must compromise the word for unity. It is inconsistent to compromise the doctrine given us in the Bible. Our God gave every word He wanted the Apostles to utter in a consistent manner and there were no contradictions in any of their teachings. God through the Holy Spirit made known to man all that He expected of us that we could be found faithful children.

2Pe-1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
